Desktop Tuesdays! Playing Around with Building Variants

Howdy. This week while Tony and Stephanie continue to crank away at the crafting system, I’m beginning the process of defining our building primitives.

roofs

As you can tell from our prototype video, in Stonehearth you don’t build structures one voxel at a time. Instead we’ll have a building tool, where you draw out floor-plans, erect walls, and cap them with roofs.

But of course we want you to have a lot of freedom when building, so there will be a big palette of choices when it comes to each house part. So you’ll get to pick the material, color, shape, etc. for your floors, walls, columns, doors, and decorations.

The image above is a first cut at some roof styles. I’m trying to play with one variable at a time (in this case the roof obviously) and seeing how varied I can make the designs. So all of these represent the same size, 1-story house made of the same materials, with the only thing different being the roof.

Ok, that’s a tiny lie. For a few of the houses I couldn’t resist adding one extra detail, like the stone wall around a few of the houses and the adobe shell + awning around that one pueblo. But you get the idea!
